Today’s WOD:

Grace

Oh, hell yes. Load that bar up and go.

A little press.

On a side note that I am very excited about, a couple of our gym members are starting a “Paleo Challenge” and they will be posting their progress, notes, and pearls of wisdom on our facebook page.

But Brian, what is the Paleo Challenge? Well, thanks for asking, Timmy.

First of all, if you don’t know what the Paleo diet is, I hope that you are a new member or else I am pretty much a failure at life. Mind you, irregardless of your dietary knowledge, I might be a failure anyways, but that’s besides the point. Back to our regularly scheduled programming, the Paleo diet is eating meat, vegetables, nuts, seeds, some fruit, little starch, and definitely NO SUGAR. You don’t eat processed carbohydrates (read: rice, bread, pasta, etc.). You eat like a caveman. Ug-Ug-Uggggggg. Meat. Yeah.

Sound hard? Don’t be a wuss. All you’ve got to do is buy things from the outer perimeter of the grocery store. You will find yourself in caveman heaven out there. Meat, veggies, fruit, all the good stuff. It’s really not that hard! You would be surprised at how little you miss the processed carbs (this is coming from a person who ate rice with every meal growing up).

Why would you want to eat like a caveman? Well, I promise you, our bodies aren’t designed to digest soda and high fructose corn syrup on a daily basis. Without getting too much into the nitty-gritty of it all, the Paleo diet is basically eating foods that your body is SUPPOSED to digest. None of this crazy refined manufactured sugar foodstuff. Most importantly, it works. People end up with more energy, increased athletic performance, and feel better about life in general. That last point is kind of a stretch, but you’d be surprised at how much of a difference good food makes in your quality of life. Rather than explaining further, I’m going to direct you to Robb Wolf’s website. This guy knows his stuff. If it’s too dense or you’re just lazy (shame on you), ask me or Jake about Paleo. We can help. I was kidding about the being lazy thing, but not about us helping you. The website is dense and chock-full of info, but we know how to get you started easily and pain-free.

Back to the challenge, a few gym members will be doing the Paleo diet from now until right before Christmas, I believe. If you want to follow their progress and learn what it’s all about, join our facebook group and get updates there. As always, feel free to e-mail directly (I do Paleo now and have dabbled in Zoleo = Zone + Paleo) or just talk to me at the gym. I don’t bite. Not until after the first date at the bare minimum.
